Skin Biopsy Specimen

• This entire image is occupied by fibrous connective tissue of reticular dermis.
  • The eosinophilic (pink) bands are collagen fibers.
  • The unstained background is ground substance.
  • The small basophilic (dark purple) spots are nuclei of scattered fibroblasts.  (Cytoplasm of fibroblasts is generally thin and inconspicuous.)
