COVID-19 Update: April 3, 2020

This is a daily joint communication from the Sangamon County Department of Public Health along with Memorial Health System, HSHS St. John’s Hospital, Springfield Clinic and SIU Medicine updating you on the status of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Sangamon County. This communication will come each day as necessary.

At the time of this press release,we are announcing seven new positive cases in Sangamon County. The total number of confirmed cases between our five organizations is thirty, including two deaths. Currently, five of the confirmed positive cases are hospitalized at Memorial Medical Center and three confirmed positive cases are hospitalized at HSHS St. John’s Hospital.

Memorial Medical Center has fourteen inpatients currently under investigation HSHS St. John’s Hospital has sixteen inpatients currently under investigation.

Help for Those Experiencing Domestic Violence
The stay-at-home order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 can have dangerous consequences for individuals experiencing domestic violence. If you need help, you can call the Illinois Department of Human Services Domestic Violence Helpline at 1-877-TO END DV (1-877-863-6338 voice or 1-877-863-6339 TTY) and get connected to local domestic violence shelters or emergency shelter at available hotels and motels. Transportation assistance is also available.
Friday Night Lights
The support we saw throughout the community during Let There be Light was overwhelming and greatly appreciated. Join us each Friday from 7-10 p.m. throughout April to show our support for essential workers and healthcare employees.
