Dr. Matthew Johnson, Assistant Professor of Surgery and partner in the Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, specializes in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. He also has clinical interest in pediatric craniofacial surgery. He is board certified in Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery and Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
Prior to joining SIU, Dr. Johnson completed internship and residency training at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. He then continued on to complete fellowship in Syracuse, NY at Upstate Medical University, training in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive surgery and Craniomaxillofacial Surgery. This fellowship involved a focus on pediatric cleft and craniofacial surgery. This includes training in cleft lip and palate repair, speech surgeries, facial bone grafting, mandibular and craniofacial distraction osteogenesis (moving and elongating bones), cranial vault surgery (open, endoscopic, and distraction osteogenesis), otoplasty and ear reconstruction of microtia or malformed ears, nasal surgery and reconstruction.
Additional clinical interests include rhinoplasty, facial paralysis, facial reconstruction after Mohs surgery or cancer removal, facial trauma, facial aesthetic surgery including: facelift, brow lift, eyelid lift, laser skin treatments, botox, filler injectables, and fat grafting.
Dr. Johnson is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, American Academy of Facial Plastics and Reconstructive Surgery, and American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association.
