Rebecca Hoffman, MD, MSPH

Dr. Hoffman is an Board Certified Family Physician who serves as the Program Director of the SIU Alton Family Medicine Residency Program and Director of Scholarly Activity and Research for the Department of Family and Community Medicine at SIU School of Medicine (SIUSOM).  A native of Edwardsville, IL, she graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a degree in Biology (BS) in 1997 and then from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine with her medical doctorate (MD) in 2001.  She completed residency at SIU’s Quincy Family Medicine Residency Program in Quincy, Illinois, where she served as chief resident, graduating in 2004.  She then completed a 2 year academic Family Medicine Fellowship at the University of Missouri-Columbia, receiving a Master’s degree in Public Health (MSPH) in 2006.

She served as faculty at the SIU Springfield Family Medicine Residency Program from 2006-2010 and 2017-2020, and developed and serves as program director of the SIU Alton Family Medicine Residency Program.  As director of research and scholarship for SIUSOM’s Department of Family and Community Medicine, she also helps facilitate research and scholarly projects across the Department’s 5 residency campuses. 

Dr. Hoffman enjoys helping others develop an understanding of the concepts of Evidence Based Medicine and Information Mastery and how this can help physicians and public health officials develop best practices.  Her research interests include: educational modalities and their effects on future medical practice; use of technology to enhance clinical practice, including point of care ultrasound (POCUS); and health disparities and the social determinants of health. 

Dr. Hoffman lives just outside of Edwardsville with her husband and their three children.
