Students take skin safety poolside

Published Date:

poolside studentsMay is National Melanoma Awareness Month. On Saturday, May 25, SIU medical students hosted a kick-off event at the Nelson Center pool to raise awareness about the importance of using sunscreen to protect your skin and prevent skin cancer. Fourth-year students Allison Frey, Brea Sturm and Tom Herrmann set up an information table and free sunscreen dispensers at poolside. Patrons slathered on sunscreen and picked up solar-activated wristbands, IMPACT Melanoma chapstick and useful tips on skin safety. The SIU Foundation and Springfield Clinic Dermatology provided generous support for the materials.
