The Urogynecology division of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is lead by Dr. Sohail Siddique. He is also the director for the Minimally Invasive Gynecological Surgery fellowship at SIU School of Medicine. He is board certified in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (FPMRS) and Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is one of a select few who is board certified in FPMRS in central and southern Illinois. The Urogynecology division provides expert services to women with pelvic organ prolapse, urinary and fecal incontinence and the full spectrum of pelvic floor disorders. We have developed a multidisciplinary team of caregivers to treat Pelvic Floor Disorders. The team involves Urology, Physical Therapy, Gastroenterology, Colorectal Surgery, and Radiology all working together to offer the best patient care possible.
Clinical and Translational Research
Dr. Siddique also serves as the Principal Investigator for a number of studies throughout the department and co-directs the resident research program. Currently, the Urogynecology division in conjunction with the Division of Urology, is enrolling patients in a clinical trial designed to test the potential for Myrbetriq® to calm sleep disturbances in women suffering from overactive bladder and incontinence.
Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgical Fellowship Program
The program is one of only 42 in the country that teaches advanced laparoscopic, hysteroscopic and robotic skills for gynecological surgery. In existence since 2010, the team at SIU School of Medicine trains fellows in advanced minimally invasive surgical techniques and provides this expertise to our patients. Furthermore, our research environment allows the fellow to pursue multi-disciplinary research with a research assistant available for support.
