Primary Responsibilities:
My primary responsibilities include identifying, analyzing, and summarizing legislative actions of interest to SIU Medicine, create community health reports for project areas, drafting reports and briefs to inform stakeholders and partner communities, and analyze state and federal legislation to determine the impact on health and healthcare in the SIU service region.
About:
After two internships in the U.S. Senate, I joined Population Science and Policy as a Health Policy Specialist in August 2017. Since joining the team, I have worked on many different projects. I was the main author of the 2018 Rural Health Summit document, A Path to Improve Rural Health. This report served as a blueprint to improve rural health across the country, based on twenty four policy recommendations across eight different topics. Additionally, I served on the Rural Health Summit Planning Committee and tasked with content creation, speaker liaison, and event logistics. In conjunction with the SIU System and the McCormick Foundation, I helped with the planning and development of the 2019 Veterans Summit, as well as writing the final report. The COVID-19 pandemic caused us to revisit the Rural Health Summit and re-examine what the pandemic had changed as it related to our topic areas. In 2021, Albers received a Building Expertise in Administration and Management (BEAM) certificate from the University of Miami and the de Beaumont Foundation.
A native of Springfield, Albers earned a B.A. in history from Illinois College and a MA in political science from the University of Illinois – Springfield.
