SIU is distinct from many other programs for reasons that are of great value to me. The emphasis on exceptional resident surgical training and education, opportunities for mentor-supported research, evidence-based surgical care, and the socioeconomic diversity of the patient population are all qualities that I love about this program. The icing on the cake is the camaraderie among residents and team-based atmosphere throughout the department. I really wanted to be in a place where I genuinely enjoy and respect the people I work with. It makes residency training so much sweeter.
