About me
Dr. Brandt Whitehurst is an assistant professor of clinical surgery at SIU Medicine and the Chair of General Surgery for Springfield Memorial Hospital. He is the co-director of the Advanced Hernia Center at Springfield Memorial Hospital.
Before joining SIU, Dr. Whitehurst completed a surgical critical care fellowship at Barnes-Jewish Hospital/Washington University School of Medicine (2016) and a general surgery residency at the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Wichita (2015). Before earning his medical degree at SIU School of Medicine in Springfield (2010), he received a master of science degree in molecular biology, microbiology and biochemistry at SIU School of Medicine in Carbondale (2006). Whitehurst earned a bachelor’s degree at Illinois State University (2003). Whitehurst graduated from Glenwood High School in Chatham in 1999.
Dr. Whitehurst is board certified by the American Board of Surgery. He is a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the American College of Surgeons, and the American Medical Association.
