The Division of Orthopedic Surgery has been awarded the 2020-2021 Robert Bucholz Journal Club Grant from the Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery (JBJS) Resident Education Fund. The application was completed and submitted by Dr. Paul Al-Attar (Orthopedic Surgery, PGY-4) on behalf of the SIU Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program. This grant is used to support orthopaedic training by teaching residents how to evaluate current scientific literature and providing educational information on managing an effective journal club. The Robert Bucholz Journal Club Grant was created to honor Robert Bucholz, MD, former Professor and Chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. Dr. Bucholz served JBJS as a reviewer for 35 years and as Deputy Editor for Adult Reconstruction and Trauma for 27 years. He ran the orthopaedic journal club in Dallas every month for over 35 years, continuing until the month before his death in 2016.”
