Second Year Curriculum

  • Call system emphasizes the initial assessment and management of medical problems through a longitudinal emergency medicine experience.
    • Taken from home and is done with an intern
    • During the week call is 5pm-6am
    • During the weekend call is 6am-6am
    • Call done average every 9th night
    • Total average 5 call days a month
    • Answer hours telephone triage responsibility
  • Clinic is three half-days a week at SIU Quincy Family Practice
  • Senior residents work with medical students and PA students in the clinic
  • Two areas of specialty are available for senior residents
    • OB tract
    • Musculoskeletal medicine tract
  • The second-year rotations are a mix of required rotations and up-to 2 elective rotations
    • 3 blocks on the Family Practice inpatient service
    • 1 block ICU
    • 1 block Adult inpatient internal medicine
    • 1 two-week block Sick nursery
    • 1 two-week block Inpatient pediatrics
    • 1 block Rural Health Systems
    • 1 block Psychiatry/Behavioral medicine
    • 1 block Musculoskeletal medicine
    • 1 two-week block ENT
