Medical Education Year 2

Welcome

In the second year at SIU Medicine, the curriculum is fully integrated around organ systems. Materials integrate the disciplines of clinical medicine, immunology, microbiology, pathology, pharmacology, public health populations and radiology into four, nine week long core instructional units arranged around organ systems.

The second-year curriculum is nine months long with a two-week winter break. Students usually take Step 1 of the U.S. Medical Licensure Exam (USMLE) at the end of the second-year curriculum.

The faculty at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine is focused on educating the region's top physicians, researching new models of care, and providing expert clinical services that address the health care needs of central and southern Illinois.

Year 2 Units

  • Unit 1-HII (Hematology, Immunology, & Infection)
  • Unit 2- CRR (Cardiovascular, Respiratory, & Renal)
  • Unit 3- NMB (Neuromuscular Behavior)
  • Unit 4-ERG (Endocrine, Reproductive, & Gastrointestinal).
