Surgery Clerkship

Welcome

Welcome to the Surgery Clerkship at SIU Medicine. This clerkship is a unique and focused learning opportunity that allows surgical students to develop critical skills in the management and treatment of their patients.

Our supervising faculty emphasize direct observation and targeted feedback, which helps students develop their clinical skills, including history and physical exam, differential diagnosis, and development of diagnostic and therapeutic plans of care. Students have the opportunity to improve communication and interpersonal skills essential for interacting with patients, families, caregivers and health care teams.

Specialties available to clerkship students include colorectal surgery, neurosurgery, general surgery, plastic surgery, otolaryngology, vascular, trauma/critical care, urology, cardiothoracic and orthopedic surgery.
