Hascup Lab, SIUC collaboration to explore new path for Alzheimer’s therapy

A collaboration between neuroscience and engineering will explore a novel approach in reducing formation of plaques commonly found in those with Alzheimer’s. Kevin Hascup, PhD, of the Smith Alzheimer’s Center at SIU Medicine, and Chilman Bae, PhD, of Southern Illinois University Carbondale were awarded an SIU System Collaborative Grant to investigate how a cellular pathway called Piezo channels could be key in helping unlock better treatments for Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. Addiction Medicine mission and goals

Mission To provide comprehensive, patient-centered compassionate addiction care to the people of Central and Southern Illinois, through education, service, research, and community partnership. Program Goals Combine clinical experience and didactics to facilitate the fellow’s development of skills and knowledge in accordance with the ACGME competency-based objectives and milestones. Overall aims include: Understand the ethical basis of addiction medicine practice. Enhance skills in critical thinking and apply them to clinical practice. Understand the neurobiology of substance use, misuse

How to apply

To be eligible the applicant must be board certified or be a board-eligible graduate of an ACGME-accredited residency program in Family Medicine, Psychiatry, Internal Medicine, and Emergency Medicine. Application requirements includes: Curriculum Vitae Medical School Transcripts USMLE Transcripts Three (3) professional letters of recommendation (one must be from your residency program training director) Personal Statement expressing your personal interest in addiction medicine (approximately 500 words).
