    David B. Stewart, MD, FACS, FASCRS is a Professor of Surgery and the Division Chief of General Surgery at SIU Medicine. He treats all forms of colorectal disease, with a particular interest in inflammatory bowel disease and rectal cancer, including recurrent rectal cancer. His research focuses on C. difficile infection (CDI), including the development of antisense antibiotics as a microbiome sparing CDI therapy, the role of C. glabrata in CDI, the use of neonatal piglets as a model to study CDI and experimental therapies, and the development of clinical models to predict severe CDI.
