Valerie Griffin, DNP, PPCNP-BC, FNP-BC, PMHS, FAANP

Dr. Valerie Griffin is an Associate Professor and the Director of NP Specializations at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. She maintains dual certification as a Family and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and has her Pediatric Primary Care Mental Health Specialization. She has been faculty with SIUE SON for twenty years and practices in pediatric primary care with Dr. David Norman and Dr. Kristin Stahl, as an FNP at the Madison County Health Department, and serves as the medical director of Spero Family Services. In addition, she is a Fellow in the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.

Those participating in this activity will be able to:

  • Recognize the most common sexually transmitted infections (STIs) typically diagnosed in primary care settings.
  • Analyze the clinical presentation of common STIs through case study reviews.
  • Develop appropriate management plans for the most common STIs, including key aspects of patient education.

ACCREDITATION and CREDIT DESIGNATION:
SIU School of Medicine is preapproved as a continuing nursing education provider pursuant to Section 1300.130, subsection c), 1), B) and P) of the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation Nurse Practice Act. Nurses may receive a maximum of 1 contact hour for completing this activity.
SIU School of Medicine is a licensed provider for continuing education for nursing home administrators (license #139-000027), social workers (license #159-000106), clinical psychologists (license # 268-000008), professional counselors/clinical counselors (license number 197-000073), and dietitians/nutrition counselors (license # 199.000121).
