Dept. of Family Medicine seeks donations for Thanksgiving food baskets

Published Date:

A message from Jeannette Waters, Community Affairs Specialist, Center for Family Medicine-Springfield

The Holiday Season is fast approaching and we will be doing our annual drives in helping to provide Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets for some of our struggling patients. If you or your co-workers would like to donate food or put together a food basket for our low income patients, it would be greatly appreciated.

Many of our SIU departments set out donation boxes to help with this blessing for those in need.

View and print the wish list as well as a flyer to place on a box if your area would like to collect donations.

Monetary donations are accepted as well. You can donate directly to Foundation Office. Please make checks payable to: SIU Foundation / FCM Food Pantry Patient Fund #107268 and send to MC 9666. (Please note: The Foundation charges 6% for each donation received to the Foundation Account)

We accept cash donations as well. If you would like a receipt for tax purposes or have any questions, please contact me at (217)747-0802.

If you have a patient that you would like to place on the Thanksgiving Food Basket listing, please contact me. If you e-mail the patient’s name and phone contact info, please be sure to "encrypt" the e-mail for HIPAA guidelines. Please be sure to include numbers in the household (# of adults & ages and/or # of children and ages). I can also provide resources to those patients as well as talk with them about their particular struggles.

If you are an employee needing a little help during the holidays with a food basket or other areas of need, please contact me directly. We can provide that to you. You can ensure this will be held strictly confidential and I can also meet you with a food basket at a discreet location as I have done in the past. We are a family and need to help our family, too!

You can drop off donations at SIU Center for Family Medicine at 520 N. 4th St (4th & Carpenter) at the ACC Reception area (to the left as you come in the main entrance). I can pick up donations as well.

Thanks for your continued support for those who are less fortunate, especially during the Holidays!  Blessings to you all this Holiday Season!

Dr. Don Torry’s career reads like a classic academic success story: a small-town kid from Washington, Ill., rises through the ranks to become a leading researcher in reproductive immunology. But behind each achievement lies a more complex narrative familiar to scientists: dealing with the unexpected.
