Lorena Martinez King, MD, MAS
About me
Dr. Carolina Martinez-King is a Maternal–Fetal Medicine specialist and Assistant Professor at Southern Illinois University. Originally from Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico, she completed her medical degree at the Universidad de Monterrey, then pursued a Master of Advanced Studies in Leadership of Healthcare Organizations at the University of California, San Diego. She completed residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and subsequently completed her Maternal–Fetal Medicine fellowship at the University of Washington. Throughout her training and early faculty career, Dr. Martinez-King has been recognized for academic achievement and leadership. She is the current Chair of the Global Team for AJOG-MFM, a recipient of the SMFM Garite Mini-Sabbatical Award, an AJOG-MFM Editorial Fellow, and an NIH/NHMA Academic Medicine Fellow. She has authored and co-authored scientific manuscripts, presented original research at national conferences, and remains actively involved in academic and global health initiatives. Dr. Martinez-King’s clinical and research interests include complex obstetrical surgery with a focus on placenta accreta spectrum (PAS), cervical cerclage, and obesity-related maternal morbidity. She is committed to advancing evidence-based care and improving outcomes for patients with high-risk pregnancies.
