Denim & Diamonds Unveils 2019 List of Auction Items

The 19th Annual Denim & Diamonds fundraiser, presented by Memorial Health System and Simmons Hanly Conroy, has revealed its list of more than 360 live and silent auction packages.

The list includes luxury vacation homes, first class airfare, one-of-a-kind artwork and jewelry, spa packages, dinners for up to 150 guests and more. To bid, reserve your seat for the Saturday, Oct. 12, celebration. Tickets are available for $125 per person, or $1,250 for a table of 10.

Funds raised at the event are used for local cancer research and patient care. “Funds raised at the event are used for cancer research through our Team Science Grants,” said Aziz Khan, MD, executive director of SCI. Khan is also the chief of hematology and oncology and a practicing oncologist at SCI. “Team Science Grants provide the initial dollars to gather the evidence and data needed to pursue and win a national federally-funded grant. Donations are critically important to our research enterprise.”

As clinical director of SIU School of Medicine’s Children’s Medical and Mental Health Resource Network, she has expanded access to trauma-informed care across rural communities, supported partners who serve children affected by abuse and violence, and trained hundreds of graduate students in evidence-based treatment. Her service with AVA strengthened national efforts to integrate trauma-informed practices into health care, and colleagues praise her ability to unite teams, guide change and keep families at the center of the work. Through her leadership, more children across central and southern Illinois can find safety, support and hope close to home.

AFSCME, SIU School of Medicine ink 3-year agreement

SIU School of Medicine and AFSCME Local 370 have finalized and ratified a new collective bargaining agreement, effective July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2028. The union represents more than 800 school employees across its campuses.
