Dr. Judy Davie has been named the chair of the Department of Biomedical Sciences in Carbondale.  She succeeds Dr. Buck Hales, who recently retired.

Davie earned her B.A. in molecular biology from Auburn University and her Ph.D. from the University of California – Berkeley. She joined the SIU School of Medicine faculty in 2006. Among many other activities, she has served the medical school with distinction as assistant and associate professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, as the director of the Molecular Biology, Microbiology and Biochemistry (MBMB) program, as chair of the SIUC Graduate Council, and as president of the SIUC Faculty Senate.

In 2020, Davie helped to guide the merger of three of the medical school's basic science departments to create the Department of Biomedical Sciences – Carbondale. Since then, she has served as vice-chair of the Division of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology within that department.
