Family Medicine executive receives primary health care achievement award

Published Date:

Iris Wesley, CEO of SIU Family and Community Medicine's Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), has received the Illinois Primary Health Care Association's (IPHCA) 2024 Danny K. Davis Achievement Award.

IPHCA's most prestigious award recognizes an individual who has provided outstanding service to the community health center movement for at least ten years. Recipients of this award must consistently go above and beyond the call of duty to further health care access for those in need, demonstrating dedication, selflessness and inspiration as a leader in their community. Wesley has exemplified these ideals through 40 years of service at SIU Medicine.

The Davis Achievement Award was presented to Wesley at the IPHCA Annual Leadership Conference's closing ceremony in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, on October 18, 2024.

The honor is named for U.S. Congressman Danny Davis, a steadfast advocate of community health centers and a leader in advancing health access for underserved populations. The award honors those who embody the spirit of the community health center movement. The Illinois lawmaker's lifelong commitment to health equity has been impactful both locally and nationally, including through his work as president of the National Association of Community Health Centers, Inc., and as a respected member of Congress.
