SIU Medicine coordinates mass casualty training simulation

Published Date:

On May 23, SIU Medicine coordinated a mass casualty training exercise at Hope Church on Springfield’s west side. More than 120 first responders and health professionals from across Sangamon County participated. The goal was to improve the preparedness and response to a mass casualty incident that included a pediatric patient population.

SIU Emergency Medicine physician Dr. Myto Duong said, “We have had a tremendous amount of positive feedback from all the agencies who participated in our mass casualty drill. The exercise was successful because of the commitment from our community prehospital responders to be prepared for any disaster, but especially one involving children.”

“It was amazing to be involved in such a large collaborative work, and everyone at SIU Emergency Medicine looks forward to continuing our relationship with our community partners to better serve the people of Springfield and surrounding areas.”
