Students at SIU School of Medicine receive training on our campuses in Carbondale and Springfield, and in a multitude of clinic facilities across our 66-county region. The first department established at the school was family and community medicine. Faculty immediately began developing reciprocal relationships with area physicians so the students could be trained in the same settings where they would eventually practice medicine. Throughout our history, this focus has remained constant, fostering a spirit of collaboration and clinical innovation.
In more rural locations, SIU telemedicine uses technology to bring medical, educational and research services to patients and practitioners in a convenient, cost-effective way. Consultations and virtual clinic visits are available in specialties such as dermatology, neurology, oncology and psychiatry.
