Primary Responsibilities:
My primary responsibility for the Department of Population Science and Policy is to assist in policy analysis and research aimed at improving health outcomes in central and southern Illinois.

About:
I was born and raised in Springfield, Illinois. I attended Pleasant Plains High School, just outside of Springfield. After high school, I attended Illinois College, where I played baseball and received a BS in history. I continued my education at the University of Illinois Springfield where I finished 1 st in my class and received a MA in political science.

In 2016, I had an internship in US Sen. Richard Durbin’s Springfield office, where I handled constituent casework. Prior to joining the Department of Population Science and Policy, I had an internship for Sen. Durbin in his Washington, D.C. office, where I focused on foreign policy and national security issues.

SIU has been a part of my family’s life for many years. My mother, Dr. Janet Albers, has worked in Family Medicine, where she is now the Chair of Family Medicine. My sister is in the physician’s assistant program at SIU, as well.

My policy interests include closing the access to care gap among rural and urban communities, pediatric health issues, and improving overall community based health.
