Latiyfa Fields, MA
Health Policy Specialist
Department of Population Science and Policy
My primary responsibility for the Department of Population Science and Policy is to assist in policy analysis and research aimed at improving health outcomes in central and southern Illinois.
Civic engagement is a vital piece to a healthy democracy, a healthy community, and a healthy person. This belief is why I have been very intentional from the beginning of my career in being a part of organizations that are working towards better outcomes for all communities and all the individuals who comprise of these communities. Throughout my career, I have learned the importance of intentional community engagement working with diverse underserved populations including young children entering Atlanta’s Juvenile system, Wounded Warrior Veterans and Native American Tribal communities in Southern California, and black and brown agricultural workers in the Chicagoland. I am currently completing a Housing & Community Development Fellowship where I work alongside the Mayors in the Chicago region on several policy and civic engagement issues such as the 2020 Census, development of Age-Friendly Communities, housing, and diversity & inclusion. My educational background includes an MA in Public Administration & Policy with a focus in Sustainable Communities from Adler University in Chicago, Illinois. I obtained my BA in International Studies and Political Science from Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama.
