Primary Responsibilities

My primary responsibilities include pursuing individual and collaborative research in health and healthcare disparities; as well as providing education and mentoring to students.

About

I am a health services researcher with expertise in health and healthcare disparities. I joined the Department of Population Science and Policy at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in 2018.

I received my PhD in Health Services Policy and Management from the University of South Carolina, and my MPH in Health Policy from Yonsei University. My research over the last ten years has focused on understanding how racial and socioeconomic disparities in access to care lead to suboptimal health outcomes. My work is primarily quantitative in nature, involving analysis of large claim databases. I hope to reduce health disparities by informing both policy and practice in ways that improve the delivery of healthcare to vulnerable populations. Currently, I am focusing on issues related to cancer screening and treatment, and how system-wide factors and financial barriers differentially affect utilization of services and health outcomes.
