SIU Medicine Pediatrician Accepting New Patients in Decatur

Published Date:

Looking for a pediatrician to schedule a back-to-school physical for your child? Southern Illinois University Medicine will open a pediatrics clinic in Decatur on August 2. Yockey

Sandra Yockey, MD, a board-certified pediatrician, is accepting new patients at the lower level of 102 W. Kenwood Ave., in Decatur, between the hours of 8 am – 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.

“As a pediatrician, I enjoy learning each child’s story and then working with families to figure out what plan of care seems best for that child and that family,” Yockey said. “It’s an honor to be trusted by families and a real joy to see kids grow and thrive.”

Yockey completed her medical degree and pediatrics residency training at SIU School of Medicine (1990, 1993). She earned a bachelor’s degree (cum laude) in biology from Illinois Wesleyan University (1986). She is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She is married and has two adult children.

Experts agree that building a long-term, ongoing relationship with a pediatrician can lead to significant health benefits for children and has been linked to academic performance, according to Yockey. “Regular checkups allow us to monitor children’s growth and development, including their emotional and social development. We also discuss lifestyle choices that promote health,” she said. “Healthy students are better learners.”

With the new school year just a few weeks away, parents can schedule a back-to-school physical for their children with Yockey in the Decatur clinic. Physicals are required for students entering pre-k, kindergarten, sixth grade and ninth grade and students who are new to Decatur Public Schools. Students entering 12th grade must also receive the meningococcal vaccine.
