    Why they chose SIU

I chose SIU Carbondale’s Family Medicine residency program for several reasons. For one, iIs an unopposed program providing residents with direct one-on-one access to specialists, with the opportunity to learn and perform procedures that are otherwise not available in the standard family medicine residency curriculum. SIU Carbondale is also an FQHC, which allows residents to provide care for a broader variety of patients and exposes them to unique patient care challenges. Residents at SIU also get to work with several other healthcare workers such as licenses social workers and community healthcare workers, which allows residents to provide their patients with a full continuum of care. SIU Carbondale has a lot to offer residents who train here. The program has a history of producing competent, well-rounded physicians who are able to work in a variety of practice settings, and I am excited to be a part of it!
