Benjamin Montgomery, MD

Dr. Montgomery is a board-certified family physician and a proud graduate of both the SIU School of Medicine and the SIU Family Medicine Residency in Springfield. After completing his residency, Dr. Montgomery served his country for five years in the Air Force as a primary care physician. He then dedicated many years to practicing family medicine in the Jacksonville area, providing care to diverse populations, including the local jail, the drug treatment facility, Illinois College, a weight loss clinic, and the transgender community. Currently, Dr. Montgomery works in the SIU Office of Correctional Medicine, focusing on improving standards, performance, and accountability within the Illinois prison health system.

Those participating in this activity will be able to:

  • Identify the significat systemic issues contributing to healthcare worker burnout and poor mental health.
  • Discuss the impact of healthcare worker burnout on patient safety, quality of care, and workforce shortages.
  • Select individual actions and institutional responsibilities that promote healthcare worker well-being and address psychosocial risk factors in the workplace.
