Cardiothoracic Surgeon Dr. McElveen visits MEDPREP

MEDPREP was honored to host Dr. Russell McElveen, D.O. (center, in blue blazer) for Convocation this Thursday, February 15, 2018. Dr. McElveen partices cardiothoracic surgery with the SIH medical group at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale. Dr.McElveen has been a generous mentor to our students through shadowing experiences, and shared the story of his career with first and second year MEDPREP students at the event.

His work aims to reduce or eliminate the need for lifelong blood transfusions while advancing more accessible therapies, reflecting SIU Medicine’s commitment to discovery, education and patient-focused innovation.
