SIU School of Medicine Hosts Leadership Springfield

On Nov. 21, SIU School of Medicine hosted the 2019 Leadership Springfield class for a morning of education and leadership in health care. Thirty-two guests from business, government, nonprofit organizations and the community toured the campus, gaining a deeper understanding of the medical district’s economic impact and specifically, the school’s mission to train physicians and enhance regional health. New clinic in Taylorville to hold open house for community

TAYLORVILLE – A new clinic offering primary care and behavioral health services in Taylorville will hold an open house for the community from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, at 303 E. Bidwell St. The integrated clinic, which opened for business last month, is shared by Memorial Behavioral Health, an affiliate of Memorial Health System, and the SIU Center for Family Medicine-Taylorville. Light refreshments, including cookies and hot chocolate, will be served. The open house will include tours of the clinic, which is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays. New clinic to offer primary care and mental health services to Christian County residents

TAYLORVILLE – Memorial Behavioral Health and SIU Medicine are partnering together to open a clinic integrating primary care and mental health services for residents of Christian County. The new integrated clinic, which opened for business today (Oct. 14), is at 303 Bidwell St. in Taylorville. Taylorville Memorial Hospital’s finance and billing staff previously occupied the renovated single-story building. The clinic will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Grants help Sangamon County improve services for individuals with mental illness, substance use disorders

As a result of reduced state and federal funding, jails and prisons have become de facto mental health facilities at both local and national levels. Staff members at these institutions are sometimes unable to manage this population’s specific needs. With help from SIU School of Medicine staff, Sangamon County Court Services received two grants to develop services provided to persons with mental illness (MI) or co-occurring substance abuse (CMISA) who are arrested and jailed for minor offenses.
