SIU Medicine and ThinkFirst invite you to have your car seats checked by nationally certified child passenger safety technicians. Please bring the child who will be riding in the car seat, the vehicle's owner's manual, and the car seat instruction manual, if possible. Car seat checks take approximately 30 minutes.

Adapting activities for those with memory loss

Winter can be an isolating time of year and that can be especially true for those with Alzheimer’s or dementia. Venturing out into the cold weather and dealing with shorter days limits the options of activities that stimulate the mind. But between indoor activities and adapting some outdoor ones, you can create engaging entertainment for all. (See an infographic from the Smith Alzheimer’s Center .) Call for Team Science Grant applications 2025 The Simmons Cancer Institute at SIU (SCI) is seeking to fund proposals led by clinician-basic scientist teams that focus on translational cancer research. The main objective of the award is to stimulate novel research programs that complement the SCI cancer research mission. Clinicians will be required to play an active role in the proposed research. It is envisioned that a clinician and a basic scientist, both with major interests in cancer research, will pair to create a team leading an innovative, translational research project. Applications

Navigating through the emotions of grief and sorrow during a loss can feel incredibly challenging. Our grief support groups offer a confidential space for individuals to openly express their feelings, engage in discussions, find solace, and extend comfort to those who have undergone similar experiences. The FFRI grief support group meets virtually on the fourth Wednesday of each month from 7 – 8 pm. In 2024, those dates are January 24, February 28, March 27, April 24, May 22 and June 26.
