SIU Medicine, Salvation Army partner for clinic On a cold December day, a man staying at the winter warming shelter found out from a friend that free walk-in health services were available at SIU Medicine. Homeless, just recently returned to central Illinois from Oregon and in need of a primary care physician to help with ADD, he ventured over to SIU Medicine’s recently established clinic at the Salvation Army on Clear Lake. As the most common type of cancer in the United States, skin cancer affects 1 in 5 people before the age of 70. Estimates show that on a daily basis in the United States, 50 people die of skin cancer and another 9,500 people will receive a skin cancer diagnosis.
