Project Overview The Southern Illinois University System hosted a Veteran’s Summit on September 12-13, 2019 to address the unique challenges veterans in our region face in accessing healthcare, legal assistance and educational opportunities. Tracey Meares Representation Matters Award

About Tracey Tracey Meares was the number one student in her class at Springfield High School in 1984. She was never officially given the title of valedictorian until decades later. She would have been the first black female valedictorian. Her representation as such may have encouraged other marginalized students to strive to be their best academically. Tracey went on to break barriers by becoming the first tenured black female law professor at the University of Chicago and Yale Law School as well as a foremost authority in her field. About Pediatric Clerkship

Clerkship Goal: Students will have the basic skills, attitudes, and knowledge to safely and compassionately care for children. Structure: Our 4-week clerkship is a combination of inpatient, general practice, and subspecialty experiences. Each student has an average of 30 half days of clinic experience over the course of the 4 weeks. We assign each student to a small team of physicians who assess student performance and provide feedback.
