SIU students & residents honored at Trainee Research Symposium

May 14, 2019 — Young researchers at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine show great promise as they pursued answers to scientific queries during the 29th annual Trainee Research Symposium held recently at the medical school. The two-day symposium on April 23 and 26 offered trainees in Springfield and Carbondale an opportunity to gain experience in making formal presentations of their research findings. The following people have recently received the Harbinger of Goodwill award: Dughlas McCulley (Psychiatry) – “always courteous and friendly to every employee and patient; always suggesting things we could do to improve our department and make it run more efficiently; always willing to switch shifts proving his flexibility.” Linda Buttry (SIU HC Core) – “instrumental in working with a department on their reports. SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS – SIU Medicine invites golfers to form teams for the annual charity golf outing benefiting the Camp COCO Children’s Cancer Fund. A shotgun start will begin the game at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, June 7, at The Rail Golf Course, 1400 S. Club House Dr., Springfield. H.D. Smith is the presenting sponsor of the four-person scramble. At the Capitol they met with legislative aids from Senator Dick Durbin and Representative Darren LaHood’s offices to promote policies to improve health care in the regions of central and southern Illinois. Their advocacy efforts included: protection and expansion of GME funding through support of the Resident Physician Shortage Reduction Act of 2019
