Med School Celebrates Arts Magazine's 25th Anniversary

Since its founding in 1970, SIU School of Medicine has included instruction in the medical humanities to balance the focus placed on the applied sciences. In 1992 a pair of students -- Manish Kohli and James Davis -- initiated the creation of Scope, an annual literary arts magazine to serve as a creative outlet for SIU’s medical community. Poems, short stories, artwork and photography are submitted by SIU students, physicians, alumni, staff and family members each winter. Selections are made by editorial staff and monetary prizes given to the top entries in three categories: art, poetry and

Faculty Win “Innovator of the Year” Awards

Several Southern Illinois University Medicine faculty were among those honored as "Innovators of the Year" during the inaugural Illinois Capital Innovation Competition. The event, a partnership of the University of Illinois Springfield, Innovate Springfield and the School of Medicine was held April 6, 2018, at the UIS Student Union. More than 100 individual applicants applied for award consideration. The goals of the awards were to identify, celebrate and engage area innovators in the Sangamon County area and bring them together to collaborate with leaders from industry, social impact

Women's Power Lunch Features Author, Cancer Survivor Donna Hartley

The 2018 Women’s Power Lunch Against Cancer is scheduled for Friday, April 27, and will feature Donna Hartley, a “Chicken Soup for the Soul” writer and author of the “Fire Up” book series and “Healing Meditation Insights.” Proceeds from the event will benefit cancer research at Simmons Cancer Institute at Southern Illinois University Medicine in Springfield. Every dollar raised at the event stays in our region. The luncheon will take place at the President Abraham Lincoln Hotel, 701 E. Adams St., Springfield. Registration and networking begins at 11 a.m. Lunch will be served at 11:45 a.m
