Students Receive New Infection Prevention Award

Congratulations to Dr. Rory Mills (bottom), Class of 2019, and Shelby Markel (top), MS3, student recipients of the Infection Prevention Award presented by Dr. Subbash Chaudhary, chief of the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at SIU Medicine. Dr. Chaudhary and his family endowed the new annual award to recognize role modeling and leadership for pediatric infection control. The award is given to two students and a resident each year. The winners received a plaque and $500 toward medical education activities or materials. The resident's award winner will be announed at the pediatric

Flack, MD, MPH, was named the inaugural holder of the Sergio Rabinovich, MD, Endowed Chair of Internal Medicine at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in an investiture ceremony on Monday, June 3. An endowed chair represents one of the highest achievements in academic medicine, both for the person for whom the chair is named and also for the person who holds the chair. cHOP Launches Book Club

The Center for Human and Organizational Potential invites team members to join its new book club. "One of our strategies for developing a mindset around leadership and excellence across the organization is to begin a movement of book clubs across SIU School of Medicine," said John Mellinger, MD, leader of the cHOP's leadership and excellence initiatives. "The clubs will involve small group meetings with colleagues for an hour, once a month, over the course of a year." Books will be provided, and each month approximately one chapter will be discussed.
