Sangamon County Student-Artists Honored

Students from 30 schools in Sangamon County were recognized for their creativity at the 30th annual Sangamon County Art Awards, hosted by SIU School of Medicine on May 5. More than 90 works of art created by K - 12 students in pencil, marker, paint, yarn and clay were selected by a jury of art teachers for the annual exhibition in the Dean's Lobby April 17 - May 5. A reception for the artists and their families preceded an awards presentations in the South and West Auditoriums.

Jerry Kruse, MD, MSPH, dean and provost of Southern Illinois University School of Medicine and CEO of SIU Medicine, has received the Lynn and Joan Carmichael STFM Recognition Award from the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM). Southern Illinois University School of Medicine has named five new board members to the school’s Alumni Society Board of Governors. The new board members include: Milton Armstrong, MD, FACS; Richard Austin, MD; Careyana Brenham, MD; Kelli Webb, MD; and Tabatha Wells, MD. The new board members’ three-year term will begin at the April board meeting. SIU Office of Tech Transfer receives national ranking

A national organization promoting economic opportunity has ranked Southern Illinois University Carbondale among its top 100 in the country for technology transfer. The Milken Institute’s Center for Jobs and Human Capital placed SIU at No. 76 out of 225 in the nation in its Technology Transfer and Commercialization Index of Universities & Research Institutions ranking, which it released in April.
