Primary Responsibilities

My primary responsibility for the Department of Population Science and Policy is to assist in research aimed at improving health outcomes in central and southern Illinois.

About

I am a Ph.D. student in the sociology department at Southern Illinois University – Carbondale. My research interests include the sociology of deviance and crime, substance use, the sociology of race and ethnicity, gender, and social inequalities. I earned my M.A. in sociology at Southern Illinois University – Carbondale in 2018. For my thesis, I explore how framing and narratives used by the media may impact the public perceptions and judgments, which likely impact drug policy and treatment along the lines of race, gender, and social class. After being a teaching assistant for Introduction to Sociology for two semesters, I earned an appointment as a research assistant with the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. In this position, I am responsible for conducting surveys and interviews with research participants and assisting in outreach efforts.
