Women’s Health Trends Focus of SIU Conference

Southern Illinois University School of Medicine will address the most persistent health trends of 2016 at its 14th Annual Women’s Health Conference. Health care professionals, including primary care physicians and midlevel providers, who have an interest in women’s health are invited to attend the conference from 7:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 5, at the Memorial Center for Learning and Innovation, 228 W. Miller St., Springfield.

Topics of the 14th Annual Women’s Health Conference: Trending Headlines in Women’s Health include:

• Cosmetic health care for the primary care physician

• Fitness fads, fallacies and facts

• Genetic screening for breast cancer

• Vaping and e-cigarettes

• Women’s nutrition

• Zika virus

• Domestic violence

Tracy Aldridge, MD, Careyana Brenham, MD, and Tracey Smith, DNP, are co-directing the annual conference. Featured guest speakers include: Phalisha Curtis, Illinois Department of Public Health; Kimberly Paskiewicz, Memorial Weight Loss and Wellness Center; Diane Hillard-Sembell, MD, Orthopedic Group of Springfield Clinic; Sherry Simmons, MD, Body Perfect. Several SIU School of Medicine faculty members, including Wendi El-Amin, MD; Julie Fleischer, MD; Janak Koirala, MD, FIDSA; and Shreepada Tripathy, MD, FAAP, will also present.
