Recognize Your Colleagues' Excellent Patient Care

Published Date:

In conjunction with Dr. Lausen’s colleague recognition program and as part of our continuing mission to provide exceptional patient experience here at SIU we are proud to roll out the Patient Experience Nomination Form. Use this form to recognize colleagues, teams, departments, or processes that go above and beyond in order to ensure our patients’ needs are met and that they remain central to our focus.

Exceeding every patient’s expectations of their care at SIU is our #1 goal!

Our August celebrated patient experience highlight comes from the Department of Pediatrics. Recently, Pediatrics had a mother and her newborn arrive for an appointment in the morning when the appointment was actually scheduled for the afternoon. The mother was present on the right day but at the wrong time. The morning clinic was already bustling and there seemed to be no open slots in the schedule for which to work in this patient. A physician working the morning clinic was asked to see her and agreed even though the schedule was packed. As a result, the patient received the care they needed from our staff and the mother never even knew that she had arrived at the wrong time.

These are the types of stories that happen every day at SIU and this is our customer service at its finest. Pediatrics has demonstrated a patient-centered culture and the SIU Medicine core value of taking responsibility to make sure access to our clinic remains open. A big thank you to the Pediatrics team of front desk staff, nursing, and providers for the outstanding work you are doing to enhance the patient experience at SIU!
