Are you looking for a fun and rewarding volunteer opportunity? The Smith Alzheimer’s Center is seeking volunteers to assist staff with our community outreach programs. VR goggles: A reality for recovery

Primary care physician James Daniels, MD, and sports psy-chologist Lindsay Ross-Stewart, PhD, want to change how rural patients recover from hip or joint replacement surgery using virtual reality goggles. Walk to End Alzheimer's

Join us for a walk! The Smith Alzheimer's Center will have a team at the Alzheimer's Association Illinois Chapter's Walk to End Alzheimer's on Oct. 1 at Southwind Park. You can register and join our team through the link above, and help show your support by joining us to raise awareness about Alzheimer's and related disorders. The Smith Alzheimer's Center will help kick off the walk by cheering participants on at the starting line, as well as providing motivation around the Southwind Park trail. There is no requirement to donate, just a pair of comfortable walking shoes!

Walk-in acupuncture appointments available at SIU Center for Family Medicine

Have you ever wanted to try acupuncture? SIU Center for Family Medicine, 520 N. 4th St. in Springfield, is now offering an auricular (ear) acupuncture clinic as of August 2019 on Thursdays from 2-4 p.m. Appointments take 15-20 min and are only $5. Walk-ins are welcome, and you don't need to be established as an SIU Medicine patient. "The ear is a microcosm for the rest of the body," said Leslie Smith, MD, LAc, director of integrative medicine at SIU Medicine. "In fact, acupuncture is the reason we pierce our ears where we do. Walk-ins welcome at acupuncture clinic

As of June 2023, walk-ins for acupuncture are now available at the new Center for Healthy Aging and Wellness, located at the Centrum building at 319 E Madison St. in Springfield. Corry Meyer, LAC, is offering ear acupuncture walk-ins on Mondays from 8 a.m. – 11 a.m. and Tuesdays from 1 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. The cost is only $5, and anyone is welcome. You do not need to be a patient of Family Medicine or the Center for Healthy Aging and Wellness to utilize these walk-in appointments. Updated 4:00 pm, Jan 6 Due to hazardous weather and road conditions, SIU Medicine clinics in Carbondale will remain closed on Tuesday, Jan 7. All other SIU Medicine clinics will be open with regular hours.
