SIU Office of Tech Transfer receives national ranking

A national organization promoting economic opportunity has ranked Southern Illinois University Carbondale among its top 100 in the country for technology transfer. The Milken Institute’s Center for Jobs and Human Capital placed SIU at No. 76 out of 225 in the nation in its Technology Transfer and Commercialization Index of Universities & Research Institutions ranking, which it released in April. SIU PA Program National Medical Challenge Bowl Champions

After winning its third consecutive Illinois Academy of Physician Assistants State Medical Challenge Bowl in April, on May 17, the SIU Physician Assistant Program Medical Challenge Bowl team won the national championship held at the American Academy of Physician Assistants conference in Las Vegas. The SIU team competed against 82 other universities in the tournament. The SIU team is coached by Don Diemer, DHSc, PA-C, PA program director. SIU partners with UM on major economic development portal

SIU Pediatric Hospitalist Earns Ray E. Helfer Award

Pediatric hospitalist Haneme Idrizi, MD, associate professor of pediatrics at SIU Medicine, was awarded the Ray E. Helfer Award, which recognizes creative, scholarly work in pediatric education. Idrizi received the honor for her abstract, titled “Promoting Interprofessional Collaboration between Resident Physicians and Nurses,” at the association’s annual meeting on March 29 in Baltimore. The award, presented by the Academic Pediatric Association, is named in honor of esteemed pediatric educator, child advocate and past Academic Pediatric Association president Dr. Ray E. Children with specific urological conditions requiring surgery have a new option for care closer to home. Southern Illinois University School of Medicine professor Ranjiv Mathews, MD, has partnered with Effingham Urology Associates to bring specialized pediatric urological care to Effingham County. Mathews will see patients at 414 W. Virginia Ave. in Effingham. He is the only pediatric urologist in an 80-mile radius. SIU Pediatrics' Clinic Earns National Recognition

The Department of Pediatrics’ Primary Care Clinic at Southern Illinois University Medicine has earned a new status: Patient-Centered Medical Home. The recognition, awarded by the National Committee for Quality Assurance , signifies that the Springfield practice has met quality standards and taken steps to reduce costs and improve patient and staff satisfaction.
