Navigating holidays with dementia

For many, the holidays represent a time to create special moments and carry on long-held traditions with loved ones. But for those with dementia and their caregivers, it can be a time of higher anxiety. Those with dementia might be overwhelmed by being in a new environment or around many people they do not recognize. Neuroscience Institute to Launch

Coordination to improve quality, lower costs Patients with complex brain and spine disorders may benefit from a new, multispecialty clinic at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield. The Neuroscience Institute (NSI) will consolidate SIU’s departments of neurology, neurosurgery and psychiatry into a single-site outpatient clinical care center staffed by more than 50 neuroscience providers. Neurosurgeon performs new robot-assisted brain procedure

When neurosurgeon Dr. Breck Jones of SIU Medicine performed a brain biopsy on a local patient earlier this month at Springfield Memorial Hospital, he had a new assistant helping guide him to the location of the suspected tumor – a robot.
