'On Par for Pediatrics' charity event invites golfers to help area kids

Children throughout Springfield and surrounding communities are receiving extended medical care, and their families often need extra help paying for lodging, food or transportation. SIU Medicine is inviting all golfers to form teams to help these children facing life-altering diseases through the On Par for Pediatrics charity golf outing. A shotgun start will begin the game at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, June 10, at The Rail Golf Course, 1400 S. Club House Dr., Springfield. An entry fee of $125 per player includes green fees, golf cart, on-course beverages, games and prizes, and a Twyford BBQ dinner

In the last 10 years, SIU’s Fertility and IVF Center has become the preferred option for couples dealing with infertility. This spring, the center celebrated 10 years of helping couples start their families. In that time, the center has maintained a reputation for superior quality patient care and a state-of-the-art embryology laboratory. Opioid Conference Offers Guidance For Health Care, Law Enforcement Professionals

The United States is in the midst of an opioid overdose epidemic. Opioids (including prescription opioids and heroin) killed more than 33,000 people in 2015, more than any year on record, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Nearly half of all opioid overdose deaths involve a prescription pain reliever. More Illinoisans die from opioid drug overdoses than from motor vehicle accidents or all gun-related causes. An educational conference will address issues surrounding the opioid prescription drug and heroin epidemic, starting at 8:30 a.m. on June 6 at the Mount Vernon
