SIU Welcomes Class of 2021 with White Coat Ceremony

Seventy-four medical students began their medical training last week at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Carbondale. The students participated in a “White Coat Ceremony” on Friday, August 11, in Shryock Auditorium. During the ceremony, Debra Klamen, MD, MHPE, senior associate dean for education and curriculum and chair of the Department of Medical Education, welcomed the students and read the Hippocratic Oath. Contracts and Pre-Matriculation

Procedure for Completion of Initial Agreement with Physicians The initial employment contract will cover a resident/fellow over the course of their entire residency or fellowship training. SIU obtains electronic signatures through DocuSign for all resident/fellow initial agreements. The contract template, completion directions and routing instructions will be sent electronically to all programs at the appropriate time. Research is an important aspect of residency training. The ability to develop a focused research question, review past literature on the subject, structure a protocol for data collection, and evaluate the results of a study, are skills that help advance one's understanding of their field. SIU students & residents honored at Trainee Research Symposium

May 14, 2019 — Young researchers at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine show great promise as they pursued answers to scientific queries during the 29th annual Trainee Research Symposium held recently at the medical school. The two-day symposium on April 23 and 26 offered trainees in Springfield and Carbondale an opportunity to gain experience in making formal presentations of their research findings.
