Alliance for Women in Medicine and Science

Welcome

What began in January 2015 as an informal gathering within the Department of Medicine has since evolved into a dynamic and impactful organization—originally known as the Alliance for Women in Medicine (AWIM). Over time, AWIM became an integral part of SIU Medicine and our broader community.

In 2018, the group expanded into a schoolwide initiative, adopting the name Alliance for Women in Medicine and Science (AWIMS) to reflect a broader, more inclusive focus on both medicine and science.

AWIMS is guided by a vision of equity and justice for women in medicine and science. Our mission is to build a strong, meaningful alliance that advances gender equity and champions the contributions of women within SIU and the communities we serve.
