Pre-Approved Doula Training Organizations
Illinois Medicaid-Certified Doula Program
If you’re a doula with experience in full-spectrum perinatal care and have completed training from an approved training organization, you can apply to become an Illinois Medicaid-Certified Doula through the Training Pathway. This program is managed by the SIU School of Medicine’s Office of Certification Strategies, which works with the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services.

Note to training organizations seeking approval: Submit training curriculum for review
Training organizations may submit their curriculum for evaluation at any time. If the curriculum meets the necessary requirements, the organization will be added to the list of approved doula training programs under the Training Program Pathway for the Illinois Medicaid-Certified Doula initiative.
After your curriculum is submitted, the Office of Certification Strategies will review it and share the results with you. The list of approved providers is updated twice a year—on January 1 and July 1.
Note: If a curriculum is submitted within the month before either update date, approved organizations will be added to the list as soon as possible. However, the evaluation process may take more than a month to complete.
Before completing the online form, we are happy to provide you with a Doula Training Organization Self-Assessment Rubric that will help training organizations determine if their curriculum contains the required elements. We encourage you to utilize the Self-Assessment Rubric before submitting your request to be added to the Approved Training Organization List.

SIU School of Medicine's Office of Certification Strategies administers the Illinois Medicaid-Certified Doula Program with oversight and guidance by the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services.
