Students tackle teambuilding course

The 2021-22 Lincoln Scholars Program students and the Physician Assistant students in the Class of 2023 joined forces on May 29 to complete the Touch of Nature (TON) TEAMS course. They did a great job building connections, learning important team concepts, and worked together to solve all the challenges that were set before them. The TEAMS course was brought back as part of the PA Program orientation activities, as a result of suggestions from the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council and our alumni who felt it had been an important component of the PA Program curriculum.

SIU School of Medicine grants degrees to Class of ‘21

Seventy-two physicians and three graduate students at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine received their diplomas Saturday, May 22, at the school’s 47 th annual commencement. The ceremony was held at Ken Leonard Field on the Sacred Heart-Griffin campus in Springfield. SIU School of Medicine Dean and Provost Jerry Kruse, MD, MSPH, awarded diplomas to the medical students, and SIU Systems President Daniel Mahony, PhD, conferred the degrees. Jennifer Becker, MD , MPH , is a member of the historic Class of 2020. She completed her medical doctorate and a master’s degree in public health and ‘virtually’ graduated in May. She also received a 2020 Excellence in Public Health Award from the U.S. Public Health Service Physician Professional Advisory Committee for projects she initiated in southern Illinois. Pediatric Clerkship

Goals: In addition to gaining exposure to and understanding of the unique pathophysiology behind common pediatric diagnoses, each student will also come to understand the normal neurodevelopment achieved during childhood and adolescence. Students will also learn to appreciate the unique relationship between pediatric patients, their families and their physicians. Structure: Our 4-week clerkship is a combination of inpatient, general practice, and subspecialty experiences.
