Welcome to the Concentration in Cell Biology, Immunology & Cancer Biology at SIU School of Medicine. Our faculty, graduate students and medical students conduct innovative research in the areas of cancer biology; therapeutic targeting; tumor immunology; stem cell biology and lineage differentiation; as well as tumor vascular and lymphatic biology. The Simmons Cancer Institute is a focal point for scientists in this concentration, fostering translation of research discoveries from the laboratory to clinic. The Microbiology Concentration offers both a Master of Science (MS) and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees. The faculty that participate in this Concentration are in the Microbiology Program of the School of Biological Sciences within the College of Agricultural, Life and Physical Sciences on the Carbondale campus. The Concentration is research-based and provides hands-on experience in the areas of bacteriology, immunology, pathogenesis, microbial physiology, molecular biology, biotechnology, environmental microbiology, and symbioses.

This symposium will address the recognition and management of common neurological problems for primary care providers and other non-neurologists. Participants will also learn how to conduct a neurological examination, determine the appropriate investigations to order and the significance of abnormal findings, and identify the need for referral to a neurologist. LEARNING OBJECTIVES At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to: • Demonstrate the technique of neurological examination. • List strategies to diagnose and manage common neurological conditions including headache

The Anatomy & Neurobiology (A&N) Concentration is located on the SIU campus in Carbondale . Our faculty investigate a broad variety of research areas, offering opportunities for advanced training in human anatomy, histology, cell biology, neuroscience and neuroanatomy, and neurophysiology, including neurophysiology of behavior. A MS or PhD degree from the A&N Concentration prepares students for careers in education, academic or health industry research, or for further education in a health professional program.
